Music
All students have the opportunity to participate in the exciting music programme that enriches the curriculum offer. In Years 7 – 9 all students take part in practical music making and have the opportunity to learn composition.
The department has a large team of visiting instrumental teachers
and every pupil who shows an interest has a choice of individual
lessons from a wide range of instruments including strings, brass,
percussion, keyboard and voice. Over 250 students benefit from this
programme and participate in one of the many music groups which range
from the full orchestra to smaller ensembles and choirs.
The school has a lively and enthusiastic Orchestra, Choir and smaller ensembles including strings, flute, saxophone, clarinet, jazz band and various vocal groups who perform for us at numerous functions.
The Music department is well known in Greenwich and has links with Trinity College of Music, the London Marathon and other community groups. Over recent years these links have been developed through overseas visits and exchanges to places as far a field as United States of America, Ghana and Spain.
Many students perform with local and national orchestras and groups,
and some continue their studies from GCSE through to ‘A’ level
and Music College.
