The John Roan School has seven state of the art computer suites each with sufficient computers for each student in every class to have his/her own terminal, all linked to the school’s network. In addition the school has installed a virtual learning environment (VLE) which enables students to access their work from home as well as from school.
All computers in the school can access the Internet and a complete suite of office, design, control and web creation software packages enable students to study all aspects of ICT necessary for progression either to the higher level courses in the school, or to university.
All students develop key ICT skills through KS3 which they will use to create their own e-portfolio for work at KS4 and at AS/A2 for those that choose to study ICT at the school to A level.
The ICT national curriculum is taught to KS3 students, KS4 students study for the Edexcel Diploma in Digital Applications (offering up to four GCSEs) and A level students take the OCR Applied ICT course. These courses have been chosen to enable students to use their creativity as well as to gain academic qualifications, preparing them well for the world of the future in which computer technology will be very important.
