Discussion take place in tutor groups on a regular basis in order to find out the students’ concerns and to raise any issues which they think are important. In this way, all students are regularly consulted.
The Year Council then discusses the issues as a group and decides on the appropriate action. The Year council reports back to the Year through assemblies and through written, electronic and verbal information to each tutor group The Year council then sends a summary of the meeting with all the issues to be considered to the Whole School Council which consists of one representative from all the Year Councils.
At these monthly meetings the agenda is made up from the whole school issues and any other items that members of staff, governors or indeed the community may want the school to discuss. The school council is an important group who also take part in interviews for staff who apply for positions in the school. Each school council representative reports back to their year council and to the whole student body through assemblies. There are four representatives from each year council on the School Council.
At the School council meeting the agenda will always consist of issues raised by the year councils. If there are any points that have to be voted on then a democratic vote takes place. The outcomes of the meeting are uploaded onto fronter. There is governor representation at the school council meetings so that the governors are aware of the current issues for the students.
